TOBIAS TEN: TWO TIMES THE PHOTOGS

1. So close

This shot by Kylee Simmons just evaded UF’s Alexa Goldberg here in the first half at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. It was one of two goals Missouri scored on the night against Goldberg. Oh, how I wish the goal was on the other side so I could have gotten Goldberg’s expression, but oh well. I’ll be here all season!

2. Bad call

Penalties remained scant on both sides, as only one player (Missouri’s Keegan Good) tallied a yellow card. Nevertheless, Florida’s Lauren McCloskey wanted to argue with this call over who retained possession of the ball after it went out of bounds around the middle of the first half.

3. What a save

Florida out-shot Missouri by 20 shots to only seven in Sunday’s game. Nonetheless, the scoreboard showed a Missouri win when 90 minutes had passed. Missouri goalkeeper Kate Phillips is seen here making a great save against UF’s Madison Jones.

4. Party foul

Missouri’s Leah Selm got by Florida’s Madison Young here in the first half with a little stiff-arm action. Soccer isn’t generally known as a contact sport, until it ends up that way! Selm and Young both stayed on the field for nearly all of the game, with both playing about 70 minutes apiece, though neither one tallied any assists or shots.

5. Holding, ten yards

What’s happening here!? Florida’s Daviana Vaka is trying to dribble up the sideline, but is held by Missouri’s Callaway Combs. Seems like this should have been a penalty, at least in college football, where it would probably fall under holding. Ten yards, automatic first down?

6. Go 2-0 today

Forward Kylee Simmons (22) scored Missouri’s second goal off a penalty, just a few minutes after the Tigers’ first score in the 5th minute. Here, she celebrates with Landis Canada and others. Through the team’s 11 games, Simmons remains the top scorer, with three (tied with Milena Fischer) as well as the top assister, with four.

7. We’re baack

In one of the first photos I had taken in over a year, I found a familiar face in the Mizzou huddle, as Kayley Lenger demonstrates how much fun this team still is.

8. On the bench

Baseball and softball are filled with plenty of downtime, which gives us an opportunity to turn attention away from the field. The Tigers always provide some sort of entertainment, and I like to describe them as meerkats, the way they all peer over the edge. A fun touch to this photo is the icy stare of Marissa McCann (blonde, middle w/ headband).

9. Welcome, freshmen!

It’s always good to see some new faces, and in this case Mizzou softball has a BUNCH of new faces on the team. Karen broke down the performances of everyone in her takeaways piece, but one player who stuck out to this photographer was Saniya Hill. Between her speed and ability to swing the bat, Hill is one freshman to watch on the diamond.

10. Eyes on the prize

This is my personal favorite photo of the evening. Madison Walker, now a sophomore, came onto the scene strong at the end of last year, including hitting a walk-off in the NCAA Regionals. Now she’s ready to step into the spotlight, and seems to be making major improvement. This photo shows her laser focus on the at-bat, even during a fall game, which hopefully a sign of things to come.
