NEW DETAILS EMERGE ABOUT NEXT SUMMER’S NEWCASTLE TRANSFERS

Fans of Newcastle United had the opportunity to engage directly with Magpie beat reporter Chris Waugh in a Q&A published over The Athletic on April 16 in which he provided some insights and analysis on various aspects of the club, including player performances, transfers, and other issues affecting the organization’s operations.

When it comes to Newcastle United's plans for bringing new players to Tyneside, Waugh believes those lines have already been refined of late ahead of the upcoming transfer window, following evaluations made during the March international break.

Sources indicate Waugh that while specific targets for each position have yet to be fully identified and approached, there are several players on the club’s radar.

For example, Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest has emerged as a significant target for Newcastle. His performance this season, with 5 goals and 7assists in the Premier League, has positioned him as a key asset for the club, and he has probably outperformed the club on his way out of it next summer.

Given Nottingham Forest’s problems with the PSR, it’s reasonable to think his sale appears to be likely and one that would be beneficial for Newcastle both on the field and also off of it by not costing too much.

Another potential acquisition is Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth. Kelly’s contract is set to expire on June 30, he’s a versatile player in defense and he could provide valuable depth for Newcastle, particularly with long-term ACL injuries to Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman forcing the arrival of reinforcements at the center-back slot. Kelly’s ability to also play left-back makes him an especially attractive option, per Waugh.

The club has previously shown interest in Benjamin Sesko, the 20-year-old RB Leipzig forward. As the summer transfer window approaches, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle steps up its pursuit of Sesko, although there have not been negotiations nor any real contact between both clubs that Waugh could report.
