Barcelona had a fairly quiet summer transfer window but still managed to bring in Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji to strengthen the squad.
All three players have seen plenty of action and, while it’s still early, it’s worth having a look to see how they have fared so far with Hansi Flick’s side.
Barcelona’s decision to sign Joan Garcia came as something of a surprise – just ask Marc-Andre ter Stegen – but already looks to be a great bit of business by the Catalans.
The 24-year-old has settled in well – aside from one eye-catching error against Real Oviedo – and has already made the No. 1 spot his own at Barcelona.
Garcia has conceded just five goals in seven appearances and 630 minutes of football for Barcelona and has attracted plenty of praise.
The only downside so far has been a knee injury that has forced him onto the sidelines for several weeks.
Barcelona’s decision to bring in Rashford on loan was met with a pretty mixed reaction after a tough few seasons for the English forward with Manchester United.
Rashford had made it clear he was eager to join Barca, and it has since emerged that Hansi Flick was just as keen to bring him to Camp Nou.
After a quiet start, Rashford announced himself with a brilliant brace against Newcastle in the Champions League.
He’s since followed that up with more contributions and sits on three goals and four assists from 10 games in all competitions for Barca. A fine return.
Aside from turning up two minutes late for a meeting and being benched against Getafe, it’s been a great start to life at Barcelona for Rashford. The big challenge now is to maintain that kind of form over the rest of the campaign.
Swedish youngster Roony Bardghji was another ‘market opportunity’ snapped up by Barcelona in a low-cost transfer.
The deal means there’s very little risk involved if it doesn’t work out, but the hope is that the 19-year-old can go on and thrive in Catalunya.
Roony’s already revealed he’s always been a Barca fan and that this is a dream opportunity for him. He also made it crystal clear that he wasn’t interested in playing for Barca Atletic and had only come to play for the senior side.
He was handed his debut in the 6-0 win over Valencia and has gone on to play four times in total but is yet to manage a goal or an assist for Barcelona.
There have been a few flashes so far but Roony is very much still getting used to life in a new league and in a new country. However, his move to Barca has also seen him make his debut for Sweden – and receive praise from Alexander Isak – which should be a further confidence boost.
He’ll be hoping for more opportunities to impress in the coming weeks with cameos off the bench, and it will be interesting to see how much of an impact he can make this season.
