Airdrie skipper Adam Frizzell admits it was a childhood dream come true to lift silverware on Sunday.
Frizzell also had an assist, sending Liam McStravick through for his first- half equaliser before Nikolay Todorov’s penalty sealed victory, and the 26-year-old said stepping up to the podium to raise the trophy aloft is a moment he will always cherish.
He said: “It’s the club’s first trophy in 16 years and it’s the stuff you dream of as a young boy, lifting a trophy.
“I am just absolutely delighted. I had my friends and family in the stands to see it, so I couldn’t be happier.
“There’s a lot better players than me that won’t win a trophy in their career so we need to enjoy it, and I certainly will.”
The New Saints were on a 26-game winning run going into the clash and after falling behind, Frizzell was pleased with how his side dug in to turn it around.
He added: “It was a feeling of relief at the end of the game more than anything. I thought we came through against a very good team.
“I was very impressed by them, they knocked it about lovely. But we dug in and got the win. That’s all that matters.
“That is a team that competes in Europe so we knew what to expect. I watched them against Falkirk and spoke to a few of their players so I knew it would be tough.
“They started the brighter and we were a wee bit spooked, with it being a cup final, but once we settled we did well and caused them problems.”
Backed by a fantastic Diamonds following at Falkirk Stadium, Frizzell praised their faithful fans .
He said: “They helped us so much last season in the play-offs and when they come out, they help get us over the line. They were great.”
