November 2015 saw Nicola and Mark tie the knot at Corinthia Hotel London. They were incredibly tranquil and simply a pleasure to deal with when planning their big day.

Nicola and Mark were the ideal couple in the sense that they had taken the time to consider the elements of their wedding that would be most important to them, and had set their budget for all aspects of the wedding.  Noted from the beginning, I saw a priority for them was making it a relatively traditional day and all about their family and loved ones.

A personal moment that I will always remember when thinking back to the first time that I met this couple involved the groom and his family.  After a short time showing them round the hotel I found their accents seemed far too familiar to leave their origins unquestioned, and it turned out that we were all originally from the same town. Even better was that we were all fans of the same football team, Preston North End, and we were all going to Wembley the following day to see our team win in the playoffs… the makings of a perfect wedding-planning partnership!  It was a remarkable connection and one of those ‘it’s a small world’ moments that we all refer to, and from then on I knew I would get on well with this couple and make sure they had their dream day.

As you will read, it was a collection of special touches that showed this couple’s desire to personalise their day and surprise their guests with bespoke treats.

Fast forward through six months of planning and it’s the morning of the wedding. Nicola arrived at the hotel with her mum and her sisters, who were also her bridesmaids, they checked into her suite, organised her belongings, hung up her dress and began the transformation from fiancée to bride; whilst The Ballroom was being set-up to their specifications.

Below Nicola the rooms were being set with white chiavari chairs with matching white seat pads, the tables dressed with dove grey linen and a classic white bar to compliment the set up. The Courtroom, where the ceremony was held, was dressed very simply with the Pre-Function and Ballroom left to do the talking.  All the rooms were brought together with the stunning floral displays created by By Appointment Only Design, our in-house Corinthia London florist.

Situated in the Pre-Function area, there was a beautifully styled table covered with an array of vases and candles. Here the guests were welcomed and they could take their card and find where in The Ballroom they had been seated.

The Ballroom was made up with round tables for the wedding guests and a long top table for the immediate bridal party.  The table arrangements were a talking point amongst the guests with a combination of candelabras and large arrangements of beautiful blooms in light pinks, peaches, whites and a touch of foliage.  At one end of the room was a feature white bar from Great Hire which fitted perfectly due to Nicola and Mark’s intimate collection of eighty guests.

On the tables the couple had provided wedding favours which I still find to be a wonderful and thoughtful choice to give to their guests.  Mark had proposed to Nicola in Barbados and, with this in mind, they had chosen to provide small individual bottles of their favourite Caribbean rum for their guests to have at their wedding.  With these positioned at each place setting and the set up complete, it was time to start the proceedings.

After meeting with the groom, I took the registrars to meet Nicola and I have to say, she looked absolutely stunning in her beautiful dress with her hair and make-up all done.  She was a little nervous, but no more than is to be expected, and this was the first time that I had seen both Nicola and Mark anything other than them being completely relaxed.  If anything was going to make Nicola feel comfortable it was the fact that she was surrounded by her lovely family and her sisters who, as the bridesmaids were with her as she made her procession down the aisle on the arm of her father.

As soon as the ceremony was over the guests left The Courtroom to a seamless service of Champagne and canapés.  Whilst the guests were enjoying the bubbles and nibbles the Corinthia London team were busy moving the chairs to The Ballroom and clearing The Courtroom space so that the bride and groom could use this area for their photos.  Photographer Jez Dickson beautifully directed the guests until all the group shots were complete.

From here we had the fortune of being able to use the terrace of The Royal Penthouse for some intimate photos and, even though it was a little chilly outside Nicola and Mark were thrilled and couldn’t wait to take in the views of the London skyline.  After a lovely selection of photos with key London landmarks in the background we went inside and continued to use the stunning interiors of the penthouse as a backdrop.

After a drink with their family and friends it was time to invite everybody through to The Ballroom and take their seats for the Wedding Breakfast of a delicious three-course meal.

Towards the end of the meal there were the traditional speeches which had the guests howling with laughter and highlighted the family bonds and the couple’s love for each other.

Speeches over it was then time for a treat, which Nicola and Mark had managed to keep as a surprise for their guests,  a Jersey Boys Tribute Band to perform at their wedding.  The bands arrival on stage was priceless and their pitch-perfect tones were well received by all, causing many to get up on the dance floor.

Meal complete, cake cut and party mood in full swing, Nicola and Mark had their first dance and showed everyone how it should be done!  This was yet another moment where the couple showed their playful yet relaxed sides and made all their guests equally comfortable in celebrating with them.

As time went on the DJ was playing, a steady flow of drinks coming from the bar, and the celebrations were not to be stopped.  It was lovely to see a range of generations coming together and enjoy celebrating Nicola and Mark’s special day, with two families now making one large one.

Keeping the party going until the early hours, the couple retired to their suite for some beauty sleep in preparation for their exciting upcoming honeymoon… we can’t wait to hear all about it!

Nicola and Mark, from all at Corinthia London, we wish you all the best in your newly married life!
