SOCCER-SWITZERLAND BRING BACK SCHAR, SHAQIRI ON BENCH FOR HUNGARY MATCH

COLOGNE, Germany (Reuters) - Switzerland coach Murat Yakin brought experienced defender Fabian Schar and midfielder Michel Aebischer back into his team and opted to start with forward Kwadwo Duah for their opening Group A match against Hungary at Euro 2024 on Saturday.

Yakin left Xherdan Shaqiri out of the side for a game in which the Swiss are keen to make their mark after a lacklustre qualifying campaign.

Hungary manager Marco Rossi made only one change to his side, bringing in Attila Fiola at right back and sticking by a strong attack of Dominik Szoboszlai, Barnabas Varga and Roland Sallai.

Hungary come into their third successive Euros as dark horses eager to make their mark after a staggering run of 14 games unbeaten that ended only recently, while the Swiss are looking to reach the knockout stages for a sixth successive major tournament.

Teams:

Hungary: Peter Gulacsi, Adam Lang, Willi Orban, Attila Szalai; Attila Fiola, Adam Nagy, Andras Schafer, Milos Kerkez, Roland Sallai, Dominik Szoboszlai (c), Barnabas Varga

Switzerland: Yann Sommer; Manuel Akanji, Ricardo Rodriguez, Fabian Schar, Silvan Widmer, Remo Freuler, Granit Xhaka (c), Dan Ndoye, Michel Aebischer, Kwadwo Duah, Ruben Vargas
