PASCAL GROSS COMPLETES MOVE FROM BRIGHTON TO BORUSSIA DORTMUND - AS SEAGULLS HAIL THE GERMAN AS THEIR 'GREATEST EVER PREMIER LEAGUE SIGNING'

  • Midfielder made 261 appearances, scoring 32 goals for the south coast side
  • The 33-year-old led Brighton to two FA Cup semi-finals in a seven-year spell
  • He returns to boyhood team Dortmund for an undisclosed fee

Brighton's Pascal Gross has completed his move to German side Borussia Dortmund, with the Seagulls labelling him their 'greatest ever Premier League signing'.

The south coast team led a string of tributes to the 33-year-old 'legend' as he called time on a seven-year-spell at the club which saw him make 261 appearances, bagging 32 goals and creating 52 assists.

After Gross joined Brighton in 2017 from FC Ingolstadt, the German international become an invaluable player under a number of managers and was used in a variety of positions, but will now ply his trade for his boyhood side.

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said: 'In terms of his contribution on the pitch, Pascal goes down as the club's greatest-ever Premier League signing.

'He has been with us since the start of the Premier League era and has been such a superb player for us.

'He has been a joy to watch and contributed so many important and memorable moments across the last seven seasons.

'I am really sad to see him leave - and I know it has not been an easy decision for him - but I understand his desire to see out his career at the top of the German game with the club he grew up supporting.

'On behalf of all Brighton & Hove Albion fans I would like to wholeheartedly thank Pascal, and I wish him well with Dortmund.

'The term legend is often overused, but in Pascal's case he is a genuine legend of this club and will be welcome back here at any time in the future.'

An announcement video posted to X, formerly Twitter, today appears to show Gross running from Juist, an island off the north coast of Germany, to Dortmund to the backdrop of fans applauding him.

On arrival, an exhausted Gross then has a brief chat with the cameraman who takes off his running top which then immediately turns into a Dortmund home shirt.

He then continues running through the gates of the German side's training ground.

The midfielder signed for £3million from Ingolstadt seven years ago and helped Brighton reach two FA Cup semi-finals.

The German was a crowd favourite from the start and scored the Seagulls' first top-flight goal for 34 years during a victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Besides his versatility, set-piece delivery and range of passing, Gross has scored more goals in the Premier League for Brighton than anyone else, and was called into Germany's squad for Euro 2024.

He has now made the switch to Dortmund for an undisclosed fee.
