MOTHERWELL BOSS SAYS THEY HAVE A 'RESPONSIBILITY' TO TARGET ROSS COUNTY WIN

Motherwell boss Michael Wimmer is interested in points against Ross County rather than places this afternoon, but says they owe other teams to go for the win in Dingwall.

The Steelmen are a point behind Hearts in the race for seventh place, but hosts Ross County are currently in the play-off position, and must better Dundee’s result against relegated St Johnstone to avoid it.

Wimmer says he has never really looked at the Premiership table, but set the target of getting as many points as possible from their last five games, and it sticking to that.

Speaking after Wednesday’s 2-1 win over 10-man Kilmarnock, the German said: “I don’t want to look on the table. If you win, it’s always possible to get a step higher, or to get to seventh.

“I think it’s important that we make a good performance – this is very important – but it’s also important because for Ross County and Dundee they’re fighting to avoid place 11.

“We have a responsibility to make a good performance and make no gifts, because if we were in the position of Dundee we would also want that an opponent gives everything.

“No gifts, no relaxing. We want to win the last game, and perhaps to have more points than 50.”

Wimmer has been able to tinker with formations during games, and says this is important for next season, but also hopes their style brings more fans to Fir Park.

He said: “I’m happy to have the flexibility to be able to change the formations. I think it’s always important to make it difficult for an opponent to get to know what is our plan.

“But it’s more about the principles, so I want to occupy the half-spaces. It’s not always the shape, it’s more the behaviour from the players.

“We are five games unbeaten, this is good, but it is not only important for us, but also the support from the fans, and the atmosphere is great.

“I think if we play like we did on Wednesday and we are five times unbeaten, it makes sense to bring more spectators in the stadium.”
