Jonny Evans has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Old Trafford until June 2025, Manchester United have announced.
Evans, 36, returned to his boyhood club last summer as a free agent after spending eight years with West Brom and Leicester.
The Northern Ireland centre-back ended up making 30 appearances in all competitions due to injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
Evans came on as a late substitute in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City in May as he added the famous trophy to the three Premier League titles, two League Cups and four Community Shields he won in his first spell at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, completing a clean sweep of domestic silverware.
Even though United hope to sign two centre-backs this summer and have been linked with Jarrad Branthwaite, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, they have offered Evans new terms and he was happy to accept.
‘I’m delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season,’ he said. ‘To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.
‘Returning to the club last season was an honour; representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.
'Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.’
