Clyde boss Darren Young has eight days to strengthen his squad ahead of their Premier Sports Cup kick-off at home to Motherwell, and reckons he’s well on the way.
The Bully Wee have signed winger James Hilton from Dumbarton and defender Sam Campbell from East Stirling, while retaining 14 of last season’s squad in goalkeeper Brian Kinnear, Kyle Connell, Marley Redfern, Darren Hynes, Ross Logan, Robbie Leitch, Barry Cuddihy, Andy Murdoch, Liam Scullion, Logan Dunnachie, Craig Howie, Darren Lyon, Tommy Robson and Scott Williamson.
Young says he’s in talks with several players, but it’s difficult to tie some down at this time in the summer.
He said: “It has been really good. We have a squad of 16, and there are still places to be added to, there are players that we’re speaking to, and loans we’re looking at.
“You need to wait for these guys to do a pre-season and their parent clubs will assess where they are, and if we get an opportunity to sign one or two we’ll take it.

“There’s still money there to sign players, but we’re not going to sign people just for the sake of it. We want guys who are fit, hungry, who want to do well, want to progress and improve, and we will add to the squad.
“There are still guys who have not made their mind up, other guys have decided to go elsewhere. There’s some we’ve gone for that have gone from part-time to full-time. It’s frustrating, but you understand these guys have the opportunity.
“We want to get quality players, not sign guys for the sake of it. We want that wee bit fire in their belly, and desire, to impact the team and the squad.”
Young is pleased with his captures so far and said: “Sam Campbell has come in and done well. He’s a player I’ve known about for a wee bit and he has put in a great performance, he’s a kind of no-nonsense, old school defender, and the bonus is he’s left-sided as well – there’s not many of them going about.
“He has a great attitude, and if he continues to play the way he has last season, so far with us, I don’t see any reason why he can’t be one of the guys who could look to step back up to full-time.”
