BREAKING: MAURICIO POCHETTINO LEAVES CHELSEA “BY MUTUAL CONSENT”

Good news, everyone — we can love Soccer Dad again! News dropped this afternoon that Chelsea has parted ways with head coach, and former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino “by mutual consent.”

Why am I posting this on a Tottenham Hotspur blog when Pochettino hasn’t been with Spurs since 2019? Well, because it’s extremely funny, for one thing. Chelsea are already in trouble with Premier League’s PSR rules and now are paying more money to part with a manager who seemed to actually turn the ship around and achieve some decent results by the end of the season. In fact, after an initially disastrous start to the season, Pochettino came within spitting distance of catching Spurs for fifth place in the table this season. He actually did a decent job!

It’s clear however that there are major problems at Chelsea and they might not be all Poche’s doing. Poch notably wasn’t fired, but left the club by mutual consent, so it’s quite possible that he saw the writing on the wall (player fire sale at the club, maybe? Incoming sanctions or point deductions? Who knows!) and decided to get out while the getting’s good.

Whether you like him or think he’s a snake for joining Spurs’ rivals, Mauricio Pochettino is inextricably tied to one of the best Tottenham periods in the past 25 years. I know of a lot of Spurs fans who couldn’t countenance him so long as he’s with the blue scum but quite like him otherwise. Now, everyone has permission to like him again, at least for now. If you want to.

Early indications are Chelsea are looking at Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Leicester’s Enzo Maresca for their new manager.

But mostly, honestly mostly — I just wanted an excuse to post these images which The Sleepers’ Sleep made for us a while back for social media. Enjoy!
