AYR UNITED DRAW FELT LIKE A DEFEAT AND WE MUST STOP CONCEDING LATE GOALS, SAYS ACCIES STAR

Hamilton Accies winger Scott Robinson admits Ayr United’s late leveller was heartbreaking and felt like a defeat - but they must stop conceding late goals.

Accies led through Oli Shaw’s 65th-minute strike, and looked to be heading for a precious three points, only for Ethan Walker to level five minutes into stoppage time.

It’s not the first time that has happened to Hamilton in recent weeks, and they led leaders Falkirk 2-1 through strikes from Reghan Tumilty and Stuart McKinstry back on March 1, only for the exact same thing to happen.

Robinson said: “It was heartbreaking. I’ve had a couple like that since I came here.

“We went toe-to-toe with Falkirk at home and they chuck a goalie up in the last minute and end up scoring.

“We took a point that day, nearly ended up with three, and again on Saturday we put absolutely everything into the game, we were a couple of minutes away, and we go and concede.

“That could have been another three points.

“But it’s still a good point – you come here and it is a team that has been doing well all season, so we’ve got to take the positives, we can’t be too down.

“It does feel like a defeat at the end, you’re deflated, but we just need to take that on to the remaining six games, and make sure we’re playing like that, because there were positive signs, there.”

Robinson joined from Partick Thistle in a deadline-day move that saw Scott Martin head in the opposite direction, and has enjoyed his time at Accies so far – but says they’re not getting the luck.

The 33-year-old said: “We’ve been really good, since I’ve come in, and I’ve been really impressed.

“The only thing I can say is that since I’ve been here, the gaffer John Rankin’s the man for the job, and [director of football] Gerry Strain is spot-on in backing him, because from when I’ve come through the door, we cover everything, we do everything right and make sure we’re set up right for the Saturday.

“We’ve been really unlucky. We’ve gone toe-to-toe with Falkirk at home and been unlucky, we’ve beat Queen’s Park away, against Morton last week we were really good, but just couldn’t score in the first half [and lost 2-0].

“It just doesn’t seem to be falling for us just now. Morton chucked on a young kid, he ends up scoring. I think Dougie Imrie came out and said it was a bit of a smash and grab, so we’re definitely not far away.

“There are good signs, but the experienced boys need to keep the young ones positive in there, and keep pushing for the last six games.”
